When Dov Schreier wrote to Meir Panim that he would be taking a trip to Israel with his Bar Mitzvah-aged son, he wasn’t just trying to fit in a morning of volunteering into their itinerary, he was thoughtfully adding a component that he knew would bring special meaning to the trip which was meant to mark the significant milestone of his son, Eliyahu’s transition into young adulthood. 

This is not the first encounter that Meir Panim has had with the Schreier’s. Their family first started celebrating by giving back during a trip for their eldest daughter’s Bat Mitzvah which included a stop at Meir Panim’s Jerusalem branch. From that initial trip, they began a tradition of celebrating each of their children’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s combined with Meir Panim. 

As long-time supporters of our work, it only made sense to them to use these special milestones as an opportunity to impart their values onto their children and show them first hand the impact and importance of giving back. 

As with each Bar/ Bat Mitzvah that comes to volunteer with us, each of the Schreier children has received a framed certificate to mark the occasion and as a token of gratitude. In the Schreier home, Eliyahu’s certificate is now hung proudly with the rest of his siblings, a reminder of their trip, the power of giving, and the commitment to making a difference as a part of Jewish adulthood.
