First in Jerusalem, a new social initiative is under way, an outcome of Meir Panim in cooperation with the Jerusalem Hotels: Crown Plaza, Moriah Classic, Montefiore, Mount Zion, Inbal and Raich. A delivery line will operate using a refrigerated truck that will collect the food from the hotels to be distributed to the customers in Meir Panim restaurant in Jerusalem.
The beginning of the project was marked at an opening event that took place on Sunday, June 14th in Meir Panim’s restaurant on 11 Hazvi St. At this ceremony, a new truck was dedicated, donated by Klein & Coll Company, Germany, in memory of Therese Keller-April. Each day the truck will visit the participating hotels, restaurants and banquet halls and collect cooked meals and prepared food that will be delivered the following day to the diners in Meir Panim’s soup kitchen. Instructions of the Ministry of Health, specify requirements according to which the food must be collected under specific refrigerated conditions. “The needy deserve to enjoy gourmet food, too,” said Meir Panim’s Director, Rachel Ebenboim, at the inauguration. CEO’s of participating hotels and other businesses took part in the event. They were able to meet the needy diners and to feel the great significance of their wonderful giving.
