In Sderot, a city where an overwhelming percentage of residents grapple with PTSD, the Community Center serves as a vital refuge for at-risk and impoverished individuals seeking support. Recognizing that traditional therapy is not always accessible or comfortable for everyone, the center offers alternative therapeutic approaches that encourage healing in a more natural and engaging way.
One such approach is art therapy, with woodworking emerging as a particularly effective medium. Through the process of crafting and building together, participants find a safe space to express themselves, fostering trust and meaningful connections. The hands-on nature of woodworking allows individuals to process their traumas in a nonverbal yet deeply impactful manner, breaking down emotional barriers and alleviating the pervasive sense of isolation that trauma often brings. By transforming raw materials into something tangible and purposeful, they simultaneously rebuild their own sense of stability, confidence, and resilience.
