This time it was in the Meir Panim Free Restaurant in Jerusalem. On a particularly busy day at Meir Panim, Nicole’s offer to help was greeted with enthusiasm and gratitude. Upon arrival, with little time to waste, Nicole quickly grabbed a tray and started to greet diners as they entered the restaurant. Her engaging smile warmed the hearts of many who walked through the Meir Panim doors and made that day a better day for them.
Maimonides speaks of the different levels of charity, the highest one being helping a person to become self-sufficient. This includes giving him a job, or a loan to start a business. The Sensi fundraiser, organized by Nicole and others, did just that. The event provided funds that will be used by Meir Panim to assist the needy of Israel to become self-sufficient. But with her hands-on volunteering at the Meir Panim Free Restaurant, Nicole has gone one step beyond tzedakah: being sensitive to someone’s needs. By serving food and sharing a kind word with the elderly diners Nicole made people feel good and that’s where it all begins!
