Celebrating a partnership that feeds people while preventing food waste
Meet Leket – the Israeli national food rescue organization dedicated to collecting and harvesting food surpluses. They partner with Meir Panim and other organizations to feed hundreds of thousands of people across the country with food that would otherwise be thrown away.
Our partnerships’ tremendous impact 💪
Over the years, Leket Israel has supported Meir Panim with donations of new equipment like freezers worth tens of thousands of shekels! Leket saves produce from rotting in the fields and other perfectly good produce that isn’t “pretty enough” for grocery stores!
Together, we use this to make hearty soups and stews for our patrons through programs like our Restaurant-Style Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels for IDF soldiers, the disabled, and Holocaust survivors. We also get donations of surplus produce to use at our Free Shuk (market) days!
A gathering of heroes
Leket held an event this month, bringing together 300 men and women from 160 partner organizations to celebrate collaborative work. Mimi Rozmaryn and many of our branch managers attended this fantastic opportunity, meeting all the faces behind this incredible operation!
The event included a delicious meal and an inspiring lecture by journalist and media personality Shay Gal on leadership and leaders. It highlighted the impact of nonprofits working together to make the most significant difference for those in need.

Connecting across borders
Last week, our Jerusalem branch hosted a group of Leket USA Team Members. They came to Israel to connect with the people and partner nonprofits that their produce feeds. They loved getting to know our team, meeting some patrons, and seeing the fruits of their labor in action!
